RITES bags US$ 11.5 million contract from Senegal

RITES has been awarded a contract worth US$ 11.5 million by PTB Railway, Senegal, secured against international bidding, for supply of four train-sets Air Conditioned Diesel Multiple Units to Senegal. This is the first time that air conditioned Metre Gauge Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) will be exported from India.

RITES signs MOU for Integrity Pact:
New Delhi, March 18, 2009- RITES Ltd, a Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Railways entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Transparency International India (TII) to maintain complete transparency in major contracts and procurements. The MOU was signed by Mr.V.K.Agarwal, Managing Director (RITES) and Admiral (Retd) R.H.Tahiliani, Chairman Transparency International India in the presence of Mrs. Ranjana Kumar, Vigilance Commissioner, Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).
Integrity Pact model is being followed by the Corporates worldwide as it binds a company and its suppliers to ethical conduct in contracts and implementation of projects. CVC has recommended adoption of this pact in respect of all major procurements. The pact will be monitored by the Independent External Monitors (IEM) who will provide an in-process integrity audit and conflict resolution mechanism to address to timely confusions, complaints and communication gaps.

RITES bags US$ 74 million export order from Sri Lanka
RITES Ltd, a Govt. of India Enterprise under Ministry of Railways has been awarded a prestigious project worth US$ 74 million by the Sri Lankan Transport Ministry as part of the Southern Railway Line Upgrade project. This is the largest ever export order secured by RITES. The integrated project envisages rehabilitation of the Colombo-Matara line and induction of new passenger train services. RITES will be supplying Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) train-sets, diesel locomotives and setting up comprehensive maintenance facilities including machinery and equipment for maintenance of the DMU train-sets as well as training a large number of Sri Lankan railway personnel in Indian Railway establishments. The locomotives shall be manufactured by Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi and the DMUs by Integral Coach Factory, Chennai.

The contract was signed on 21st July at Colombo by Mr. Anil Madan, Director (Technical), RITES and Mr. Tilak Collure, Sri Lankan Transport Secretary in the presence of the Honourable Sri Lankan Transport Minister, H.E. Dullas Alahapperuma and Mr. A. Manickam, Deputy Indian High Commissioner and senior officials of the Ministry and Sri Lanka Railways.
The entire project is financed by Indian Line of Credit extended by Government of India towards rehabilitation of the Tsunami-damaged Colombo-Matara Southern Railway Line and for introduction of new passenger train services by induction of Diesel Multiple Units.
Export of In-Service MG Diesel Locomotives and New Day Coaches to Senegal
RITES had secured two contracts for LE PETIT TRAIN DE BANLIEUE (PTB), Dakar, Senegal, for supply of 5 In-service Meter Gauge Diesel Locomotives and 20 new Meter gauge Day Coches for Dakar Sub-urban trains operated by PTB, funded by Government of Senegal. Locomotives and Coaches were shipped from Chennai Port to Senegal.
This successful export of lomotives and coaches to Senegal is yet another milestone for RITES in establishing its firm presence in West Africa as a reliable and cost-effective supplier of locomotives and rolling stock.
